HEC-Force – Polymer Drilling Mud AdditiveHEC-Force Liquid Hydroxly Ethyl Cellulose Gel

A non-ionic high molecular weight hydroxy ethyl cellulose (HEC) designed specifically to enhance the rheological properties of water-based and polyvalent brine fluids.

Recommended Treatment

HEC-Force – L is recommended for fresh water, seawater, and saturated salt water systems. Functional viscosity is attained from 0.5 to 2.5 lb/bbl. Hec-Force is best utilized in the following applications: Speed muds, rapid viscosifier, drilling, low solids and brine fluid systems, completion and work-over fluids, special applications in fracturing fluids, cementing and stimulation.

Product Handling

Review all product specification and MSDS information prior to product application. Utilize

chemical handling equipment and personal protection apparel (i.e. goggles & gloves) as

specified in product MSDS when handling this material. Avoid inhalation and direct contact

with eyes.


Store HEC-Force – L in a well-ventilated area away from contact with moisture


HEC-Force – L is available in 5 gallon pails, 55 gallon drums and 275 gallon totes

Application Recommendations

A. Viscous Circulating System or Pill:

1.) Mix 1 to 3 quarts HEC-Force – L per barrel of fluid to produce the desired viscosity.

1 Quart = 32-36 sec/qt 2 Quarts = 45-60 sec/qt

1.5 Quarts = 36-45 sec/qt 3 Quarts = 60-90 sec/qt

B. For Fluid Loss Control:

1.) Mix Calcium Carbonate with HEC-Force – L at a pound/quart ratio, 2 lbs. Calcium

Carbonate and 2 quarts HEC-Force – L per barrel should provide a water loss of 10-12 cc’s.

C. Lost Circulation Pill (20bbl pill):

1.) Mix 10 gallons HEC-Force – L in base water

2.) Mix 20, 50lb bags of graded Calcium Carbonate for severe losses. Mix 10, 50lb bags of

graded Calcium Carbonate for seepage losses.

3.) Add defoamer if needed.

4.) Spot mixture at loss area.

Field Suggestions

1.) Prevents fermentation in sub-saturated systems.

2.) A defoamer may be needed since brines and polymer system both have a tendency to foam.

3.) Lower viscosity with water base. Increase viscosity by slowly adding more HEC-Force – L.
